Collingwood Residence — timber pergola, koi pond and Japanese maple in the garden

Collingwood Residence

Location: Vancouver, BC · Type: Private Residence

The Rasmussen family's home on Collingwood Street in Vancouver — designed and built by Søren for his own family, one of three such houses alongside the Kerrisdale and Bowen Island residences.

Behind the house, the garden is made with the same care as the architecture: a glass-roofed timber pergola on cast concrete columns, a koi pond crossed by a low wooden deck, and a landscape of lawn, Japanese maple, stone path and clipped evergreen hedge.

The firm's records list a Georgie Award in 1999 for "the Rasmussen Residence" — described as drawing inspiration from the early Arts and Crafts style, its entry planned around a large copper beech tree, its floors gathered under a great enveloping roof. Which of the family's Vancouver houses carried that name is being confirmed.

The original site's Collingwood Residence gallery was not archived; more photographs to come from the family archive.
