Storm Mountain Lodge
Location: Banff National Park, Alberta · Type: Hotel
A plan for the renewal of an early-1900s bungalow camp in the mountains of Banff National Park. The original log cabins are retained in their locations, renovated and expanded with added vestibules and insulated roofs, around a new central lodge holding the dining room, library, wine-tasting room and spa.
Guest rooms are provided in four outlying chalets of eight suites each, their sleeping lofts linked to the lodge below grade for all-weather access; a new access road, well, on-site treatment system and firefighting reservoir were designed to serve the remote site. Fully designed for construction in 2000, the project awaited federal decisions under the National Parks development moratorium.
Photography for this project has not yet been recovered from the archives.
